.45-70 Paper patched bullets
Has anyone on here messed with paper patching cast bullets for their .45-70? I've just started playing with this idea. I loaded up a batch to take out tomorrow. I sized some 405 grain .458" bullets down to .451" and patched them with linen paper and ran the patched bullets through my .457" sizer die.

How did it work out ????

Sweet...I finally found a load my Pedersoli 1874 Sharps likes. 49.0 gr of IMR4064 under a 405 gr cast and paper patched bullet. Impending rain kept me form shooting any distance with it but the shots I did take were very promising. Three shots at 55 yards with the iron sights punched paper for a group 0.75" C-C. I can't wait to get some decent weather to shoot at some steel at extended ranges with it.
Yesterday was gorgeous but I spent the day with two other instructors teaching a Hunter-Trapper Safety Ed course. |
Can't beat that especially with Iron Sights and OUR OLD EYES! GRIN
