7mm REM MAG LOAD w RETUMBO

I recently got into reloading and started off using 162 gr. Hornady SST' s w/62 - 70 gr of H1000 (7mm Rem. mag). I was getting pretty good groups at 100 yds. using only a bipod. I got a new scope this summer and tried sighting it in with Fed. Premiums 165 gr. SPBT earlier this year and the results were terrible. Couldn' t even put 3 shots togeter in a 12" circle. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when most of my reloads were hitting within 2" of each other with 3 shot groups. After a couple adjustments of my scope I was dead on at 100 yds. Then it was off to 200 and was a couple inches low but still pretty good groups. Now that I' m close, I' m gonna stick with 70 gr. of powder and adjust my scope for the proper height at 100 & 200. I would like to try some other powders and noticed on the Hodgdens website the RETUMBO powder. I have scoured for different load combinations but have never seen anyone reccomend this powder. Has anyone tried it and if so, how were your results. I know people have their favorite loads, but what I' m looking for here is info on this particular powder, thanks! JDinAB

RE: 7mm REM MAG LOAD w RETUMBO

I use it in my 300RUM, and its ok. I get the occasial flyer for some reason with this. I have better luck with H1000, and Re25. Also get some monster speeds with the Re25. Retumbo and re25 seems do great with the heavier bullets.
