Bullet for Black Bear
Does anyone have a recommendation for a bullet for a .270 for black bear? I was thinking a 140gr. Failsafe or 140gr Barnes XBT. Any insight would be appreciated.

RE: Bullet for Black Bear
Black bear can run over 450 pound and I' d be sure to use a 150 minimum bullet in the .270...further the failsafe and Barnes are fine bullets...as are the Northfork, A-Frame, trophy bonded, and yes.....even the Nosler Partician bullet...
Get your self a great bear!! |
RE: Bullet for Black Bear
Any premium bullet such as the partition, failsafe, bearclaw or barnes x in 130gr or up will do fine on any black bear.

RE: Bullet for Black Bear
I would go with a 150 gr. Barnes X. Good luck.

Of course the Barnes X is a great choice in 150 grain. If you want to spend a couple more bucks, I' d go with the Trophy Bonded Bear Claws.

RE: Bullet for Black Bear
The 140 Failsafe or Barnes X is plenty for the biggest black bear that ever walked!! On bears, bullet placement is everything, no matter what gun you' re shooting!!! ;)
I knew a doctor' s wife in Fairbanks AK in the 1960' s who killed Polar bear with a .270 and the 150-grain Nosler Partition. Polars tend to run larger and generally require more killing than blacks.:D |
RE: Bullet for Black Bear
Barnes X if they shoot well in your gun. Nosler Partition would be a good choice as well.

RE: Bullet for Black Bear
I used the 150-grain Nosler Partitions for black bear. Two bear, three shots! But your choice should be excellent as well!! Failsafes are great bullets!
