Reloading rifle cartridges for the very first time
A some of you know, I have been loading 9mm pistol bullets for about 3 weeks and have loaded about 1,200 rounds. I got to thinking about reloading rifle cartridges last week and ordered every thing needed to do so. In the mean time, I have been reading my reloading manuals and watching youtube videos. Today I really took my time and did al of my case prep work and set my resizing die.
This evening I carefully loaded a total of 15 30-06 rounds, starting at 53gr, 54gr, rig on up to 57gr. Next week I will shoot them and see how they do. Well, I think that I'm off to a good start.

You will probably like the results from that IMR 4350. It's mostly my "go to" powder for my 06's. Especially my shorter 22 inch barreled mountain 06. It really seems to like that powder with a 180gr Interlock. Just ordered a few of those new ELD 212gr to test out. They are supposed to be extremely low drag (ELD) and hold together exceptionally well.

I use IMR 4350 in several rounds, 7mm08, 300 wm and others.
I like IMR 3031 for my 30-30, 308 and 220 swift and others.
With those two rifle powders I am able to do several calipers the way I like them and not have a whole wall of powder to look thru to find the one I want for this and that.

IMR 4350 was the powder used that holds the 1000 Yard Any Sight Match Record by a friend.
Open Record Carl B KOVALCHIK SPRINGFIELD, VA 200-19Xs 7/12/1996
He used a 300 Win Mag with a custom min dimension chamber designed by another friend Ray Steele who was Armorer for US Secret Service. Carl was a shooter on the USSS team.
If anyone would like to have a rifle built with that same chamber I have the reamer drawing I got from Ray Steele and had Dave Manson make my reamer. Ray told me it was about the sixth reamer design he worked up for the 300 Win Mag and that was the final one.
Ray went to USSS when Frankford Arsenal closed. He passed about six years and I really miss talking and shooting with him.
If you want to build a rifle with this chamber PM me with a email address and I will send you a copy.

bigtime, IMR 4350 will work well in the 308 and 270 too. working up a load for each rifle can take some time but if you start out at the middle of the loads that the loading books give you and start working up towards max in half grain increments you will find that each rifle will let you know what it likes best. I only load about 5 or 6 rounds for each load and fire them to see which load gives me the best group. you will want to keep each loads separate and use different targets to shoot at. do not adjust your scope if it is already sighted in using factory loads. you will want to see which load groups best. after you find a load that the rifle shoots well, then sight it in for that load. good luck.
