H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
Hey guys a little help here. I am new at reloading on my new Dillon xl 650 but my problem seems to be with powder spilling when it auto indexes. I seat my primer then it throughs a powder charge and bells the case. SO when it indexes to the next station powder spills out. I am not saying a lot of the powder spills out but enough that has me cleaning it far far too often. It probable doesn' t spill more than a grain but when you have to take that shell plate off and clean it you would know. I spent a couple hours well to tell you the truth about 4 hours ( yes I am slow but it was my first time taking it apart) of cleaning all the little nooks and cranies but got it looking new again. Well so my delima is, is there anything that can be done to prevent this auto indexing from being so abrupt when it cycles to the next station? Oh I am reloading my 445 supermag with 32.5 grains of H110. under my beartooth 250 grain LBT LFNGC.
Thanks for any and all opinions. I will be calling Dillon in the morning but thought I would ask Thanks Brian |
RE: H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
Well I called Dillon today and they said that it is the powder that is the problem. They just told me to use ball powder of some kind. Oh well I will have to just use this machine differently when wanting to use H110.

RE: H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
It' s sure a PITA when you spend that kind ah $ & things don' t always work out.
Can you atleast put a bit of finger pressure on the case as it' s indexing to absorb the " jump" so as the powder won' t escape? Might work till you try another powder or lllllllighten ttttthe lllllload??????? (please don' t tell anybody I said that) |
RE: H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
Lowly Darton, That is what I am doing right now with the cases as it auto indexes. I just put my finger over top of the case when it indexes to the next station. Its not as fun as just pulling the lever and you get a finished load but if I want to use the H110 I will do it this way. I am also going to try some ball AA 1680 powder and see how it works.
Bloodnativ. Sorry but I love my xl 650. So it has a quirk. Its one if not the best press out there. I also contimplated the RCBS PRO 2000 but decided on the DIllon and I am happy with what I got. It is truly a great machine. If this is the only quirk that I have with it I am going to be very VERY happy. Brian |
RE: H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
445 supermag,
Check your powder die and powder funnel adjustment. Also the arms that work the charge bar. I load H110 for my .44 mag, I get a little spillage not much than others. I use the 550B for pistol and rifle. |
RE: H110 spilling everywhere!!!!!
Newboarhunter, Its not spilling from the powder funnel but it is coming out of the charged cases as the indexing plate indexes. I will just use it this way when using H110.
