Default 270 win to the max

Setup:

Ruger No 1
270 win
30"+ Pac Nor barrel
1 in 8" twist 5 groove

H4831 as the main powder tested. I did test H1000 and IMR 4831

Here's some of what I've played with so far. Keep in mind I've went up and down the scale in .5 powder increments. I've shot quite a few rounds trying to build a perfect long range load for this rifle.

165gr Matrix bullet.
58.0 gr H4831
3060 fps avg
1 1/4" 100yd groups
5" 300yd groups

54.0gr H4831
2880 fps
7/8" 100yd groups
4 1/2" 300yd groups

I really liked the idea of the Matrix but my barrel didn't like it. Even with the H1000 it was spread out.

150gr Nosler Accubond LR
58gr H4831
3160 fps
5/8 to 3/4" 100yd groups
4 1/2" 300yd groups

At 100yds I though I had a winner and to start playing with seating depths. Nope. Once again going up and down on the charges.

Speer 150gr BTSP
58gr H4831
3180 fps
5/8" 100yd groups
2 1/2" 300yd groups

This bullet shot indentical in the lower powder charges. Best I could do was just under MOA. I really like this bullet for hunting.

I did save the best for last...

150gr Berger VLD match grade
54gr H4831
2950 fps
3/8" to 1/2" 100yd groups
1 1/2" 300yd groups
4 1/2" 650 yard group and I use mil dot reticles so the group was vertical with less than 1/2" horizontal spread. That was my hold I'm sure.

I have not tried to go up the scale on powder charges yet. And it's sitting 27 thousands off the lands. I have been shooting this load compared to ballistic programs and it's pretty much landing exactly were it's suppose to.

So after all the chip shot data I have posted. I do have a question.

I'm not quite convinced this Berger load is done. I have seating depths and powder charges to play with.

Would you????
Try to pump up the velocity and see if it stays the same or worse?
Just mess with seating depths to make this load better?
Or would you just call it done and be happy with this as a decent target/hunting load?

The only reason I ask is because I'm the kind of person that could go on forever tinkering with a load to the point I drive myself nuts. Maybe if I save up and buy a bonefide scope for this rifle I'm already there.

I have ordered a box of the new Berger 170gr bullets that just come out. I have the right barrel twist to give these a shot. If I could get 1/2" groups at 100yds with this bullet and hopefully around 2900 fps this would be a smoking hunting set up.

Am I crazy or just expecting too much out of the poor ole 270 win case? So far I'm not under impressed with Berger load just question when is enough enough?

They look like this. I've not seen them in anyone else's posts. They are in all your posts.

It looks like the links photo you posted came from a mobile application, not a desktop version. That would be a techie question as I have no idea why it would display that way unless it's some glitch in the Google ads inserts. Where do the links go on your phone? Reason I ask is the links in your post just go to your photobucket account.

That's because I posted a photo of them, and yes, its a mobile version. I don't know where they go, I don't dare click on them. I don't see them on other folks posts, just those by blackelk.

my posts don't seem to come up all the time??? I've always had good luck with IMR4350 in the .270. But then again I had a 1:10 twist and shot 130 gr bullets.
but I would still give it a try. Either that or IMR4064
