Bullets???????

As Super Hunt54 has stated, and i feel the same way,why do you need such hard bullets for deer????? Barnes and Swift cost so much by the time you find a load thats accurate your broke,at the price of them!!!!
I've shot lots of deer in 55 years of hunting. They have been taken with pure soft lead,as in cast bullets and plain old jacketed ones in all sorts of rifles!
They have been shot at close range and as far away as 200 yards, with plain old bullets and dropped dead!
Can anyone come up with a good reason to use these?

Either plain high fashion (flavor of the month), requirement of local laws, or internet guided decision.

Of course they are not needed otherwise, but to each their own.

Reasons are just what Big Uncle stated. Liberal idiot states like Cal. now require all bullets to be lead free. Then there is all the hype from the media about the next super duper bullet. Like you, I've shot a ton of deer with Hornady Interlock bullets in the .243 .270, 308 and 30-06. I've also killed many with a 50 cal patched round ball. About the most expensive bullet I've ever used has been the Nosler Ballistic Tip in the .270.
The only reason I can see to use a premium bullet for deer is if you shooting long range and they shoot more accurately out of your rifle. Deer may have gotten smarter in the past 50 years but they haven't gotten any tougher.

My sentiments exactly. I have shot truckloads of deer, bear, elk and moose with Hornady Speer, Nosler, Winchester and cast. Partitions, Grand Slams standard cup core and lead, the result is the same. They fall down. Some are insanely accurate, others not so much, but still minute of deer. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. I always used the premiums when hunting in the rocks as there are grizzlies all over the place in there, but for the average hunter, these are just an added expense in an already costly hobby.

Well, considering the whitetail deer and Elk populations as well as the Bison population were nearly wiped out to extinction with pure lead bullets as well as cup and core, I see no real reason for them myself other than money makers. Now granted, some of the newer designs for muzzleloading bullets such as the Lehigh Controlled Fracturing bullet has a real use because you want to create as much internal damage as possible since you only have one shot for the most part, many of these new monolithic armor piercing rounds are just absolutely NOT needed for the simple hunting that we hunters need. You put an old cup and core bullet where it's SUPPOSED to go and you will have a dead animal. Simple as that. I honestly have no clue how many deer, hog's (I do know my Elk numbers) and many other big game animals I have taken over the years with Corelokt, and Hornady Interlocks and Interbonds. Not to mention the whitetails taken with hand made connies out of my muzzleloaders. Or the jacketed lead slugs for my shotguns.

Another thing to consider is that hunters are a big market with a considerable amount of money to spend. Manufacturers always bring "new" products to the market to stand out and then try to convince hunters they need or want the product. Each bullet company gets in on the act to get their piece of the money pie. Soon enough, all these companies have a similar bullet and they promote it. So the customer constantly hears how they need this bullet performance, when in most cases, they don't, as there are other alternatives. The customer needs to be a step ahead of these crafty marketers to see what's going on and know how to wisely spend their money.
