What presses is everyone using?

I have 3 reloading presses. A RCBS Rockchucker single stage, a Hornady Lock and Load progressive, and my all time favorite, my Possness Warren Metalic II, multi stage. I never owened a Dillon but everyone I talked to seems to like them. Here is my Possness Warren.

Never heard of that one, but it sure looks like one heck of a press! I use an old RCBS given to me with a lot of other reloading stuff when a good friend quit reloading and moved to FL.

Nomercy448 07-02-2015 05:56 PM

I tend to do most of my loading on a Lee Classic Turret, and do almost all, if not all, of my decapping on a Lee Anniversary O-press single stage. I HAVE and occasionally use a Forster Co-ax, and picked up a Redding T7 this winter. I keep telling myself I wanna get another progressive just for higher volume 223 and 44m, probably just get cheap Lee Progressive 1000's for that.

I forgot to mention - I have another RCBS single stage (mothballed) and a Lee "scissor" hand press for bullet seating at the range.

You would think as much reloading as I do I would own a progressive. But I am just too darn "anal" when it comes to my hand loads. (Yeah Yeah I know anal and hand loads shouldn't be in the same sentence) but the fact is I like to weigh each and every powder load. An old Rock Chucker has been my main loader for 40+ years now (well 3 of them actually) I set them up in a line sort of with the main dies I use the most set up on the first 2 and I use the third for everything else.

I am using a really old RCBS before the rock chucker that is 45 years old on the 26th of this month. A Lyman challenger I got still new in the box at a yard sale about 25 years ago.
I also weigh each and every powder charge and every 5th one goes on the balance beam to double check the E scale.

:D Al

Not too many people have. They are made in Rathdrum Idaho, they make awesome reloading presses, both metallic cartridge and shotshell. My gunsmith, who is also a competitive benchrest shooter turned me on to this press.

Here is a link to the same press.

Rockchucker for me.

Rockchucker

Lyman crusher is what I use.

LEE single stage press. The breech lock quick change variant.

I started reloading when I was 12 years old under the guidance of my uncle. That Christmas my parents bought me a Pacific Deluxe reloading set. Being 62 now, I have since replaced a few of the components like the scale and powder thrower but I still use that old Pacific press. It is built like a tank and will likely never wear out.

Sweet!. I started handloading when I was 12 with my dad, by the time I was 15 I was loading my own without help. I am now 42 and the RCBS Rockchucker that I have was my dads, the one I learned on, lots of good ole memories with that old press. The Rockchuckers are built like a tank as well.

Most of my re-loading is done on one of two RCBS, Jr. presses. For full length re-sizing of magnum cases i use an RCBS Rockchucker press.

Mykey 07-06-2015 11:06 AM

Rockchucker for 25yrs and counting.

PigBrick 07-08-2015 01:31 PM

Hornady Lock-n-load. RL550

TWOWITHONE 07-15-2015 06:01 PM

Rockchucker for 20 + yrs . Plus RCBS has great customer service to boot.

RobertSubnet 07-16-2015 07:58 AM

Rock Chucker here as well.

I have looked at progressives but I just do not shoot/reload enough to justify one. 50 - 100 rounds is pretty typical for a reloading session for me and that yields plenty of ammo for my needs.

Centaur 1 07-16-2015 04:22 PM

Most of my loading is done on my Lyman T-Mag, it's like having a dedicated press for every die. I also use a Lee C-frame press for sizing bullets and expanding case mouths.

Mr. Slim 07-17-2015 02:56 PM

i too have a RCBS jr. press. have been using it for almost 40 years. wouldnt trade it for anything else.

buffybr 07-19-2015 02:41 PM

I use a Rockchucker for my rifle reloads,
a Dillon 450 for my pistol reloads,
a single stage Honey Bair for my 12 ga hunting loads,
and I have 4 Hornady/Pacific 366 progressive loaders (12 ga, 20, 28, and .410) for shotshell target reloading.

Rockerchucker

Ruger-Redhawk 08-17-2015 12:38 PM

I'm still using the one and only press that I've ever bought. I bought a RCBS Rockchucker in the mid to late 1970's from the gun shop I was working for.
I've loaded allot of rounds in all different calibers on that old Rockchucker. I've thought about getting a Dillon but being this late in the game I can't see it being feasible.

Landngroove 08-29-2015 01:22 PM

I use an RCBS JR for depriming, and priming cases. I then use my RCBS Rockchucker, or my Lyman Orange Crusher, for resizing, expanding, and seating.

Idflatwater 12-05-2017 05:16 PM

I have a metallic II for sale if any one is interested in it. My reloading space is very limited. It comes with a Redding powder measure.

Mr. Slim 12-08-2017 07:51 AM

topgun, would that press be an old RCBS junior press? i have one and its the only one i have. still works for me. i also weigh all my powder loads.

falcon 12-08-2017 01:39 PM

My RCBS Rock Chucker is used to de-prime and full length resize cases larger than .308 Win. One of three RCBS Junior presses is used for everything else.

907Alaska 08-11-2018 06:48 AM

Im using a RCBS Rockcrusher...its really all i need here...its performed perfect so far

Berserker 08-11-2018 06:56 AM

Only one I have used it Lee turret, so I can't say it is the best. I like it cause I can leave the dies in turret. I have turrets for every caliber I load. I don't understand why anyone would even own single stage. You can operate a turret like a single stage if you want. Unless the play in the turret is an issue.

I usually hand prime. Though I migh look at getting one attachments that feeds primers from a hopper.

Berserker 08-11-2018 07:01 AM

I also don't know why anyone uses a balance beam anymore. Life is to short. I got tired of waiting, and using a magnifying glass to see where it was. Which was probably over kill. To me eyeballing a black mark is more of an art, than a science. Which is funny cause the balance beam die hards so it is more accurate.

hardcastonly 08-11-2018 08:31 AM

it would be hard to beat a dillon 650 once its correctly set up and properly adjusted if your only knocking out hundreds of some single small case like a 223 or 308 win

Savage_99 08-19-2018 08:07 AM

My late dad bought me a Lyman Eze Loader press and dies for my 222 and his 30-06 65 years ago in 1953.

I bought a RCBS press and dies for those cartridges and others later. A rcbs 2a and 1V are set up on the bench now along with the Lyman!

Grumpy Old Guy 09-14-2018 10:47 AM

I use a Lee 4 hole turret press for quick load development. For large number of loadings I use either a Dillon 1050 or my Dillon 650. Just sold off my 2 Dillon 550 presses as I didn't use them much any more. Have a larger RCBS single stage press for heavy case forming work.
Been selling reloading equipment at gunshows for 32 yrs so I've had and used almost every brand of presses made but settled on the Lee, RCBS and Dillon.
