30-06 Chronograph Results
Thought I would share some results of load testing over the weekend. Load is as follows. Accuracy=1/2 MOA. Lapua Brass. 150 gr. Sierra ProHunter. 60.5 gr. H414. CCI BR2 Primer. Average velocity for (5) shots over my Chrony was 3065 fps. To say the least I was very satisfied. 57.0 gr. of H414 produced 2878 fps and the same 1/2 MOA accuracy and I hit the second node at 60.5. However, in this rifle all the loads that I had shot under 1-1/4 MOA. Rifle is a Husqvarna HVA that I bought a couple of years ago in never fired condition. The 60.5 gr. load is 1/2 grain over max according to Hodgdon website data but I didn't show any pressure signs in my rifle til 62.5 gr. Bullet is .015" off the lands in this rifle.

I used to use 150 gr bullets out of my 06 but for the past 10 years I've been using 180 gr bullets. I've used them on deer, antelope, bear and moose and never lost an animal. I use Rem core lokts for deer but use the Sierra Game Kings for bear and Moose. The 180 gr Sierra has better ballistics than the 150s. Especially at longer ranges.

My best 30-06 load over the past 35 years has been 58gr of IMR 4350 under a 165 gr bullet and CCI or Winchester standard primers. Sierra GK, Nosler BT, Speer boat tail, Remington PCL, Hornady Flat base or boat tail all shoot the same. Velocity stays around 2840 in 24" barrels, 2800 in 22" in five different rifles. That's what I like about the 30-06 - reliable like vanilla ice cream or Mom's meat loaf. (Must be hungry)
