7mm08 bullet selection!!!!!!

While carrying my 7-08 I've only ever had 2 opportunities at whitetail. Both decent sized buck in the 135 - 150 lb range. I used 139 gr Hornady Interlock bullets (the old design) and both of these buck were DRT. One was shot while in his bed and he never got up.
IMO in the 7-08 you don't need a 'premium' bullet for whitetail unless you start getting up into the larger size animals like up north. My exception to this is if your rifle likes Accubonds or the Barnes TSX then by all means use them. I would take better accuracy any day regardless of price.

I was surprised that remington 140 gr core locks shot right at and under 1 MOA... Shot a 9 pt buck opening day and hit him quartering toward and bullet hit deer just in front of shoulder and exited right at end of ribs on opposite side... Deer went maybe 20 yards...

I'm a big fan of the 139gr Hornady's also. Killed a ton with them, they perform perfectly in my .280. I'm sure they would work well in the 7mm-08 also, as it seems much of the factory ammo is 140gr.
I'd also look at something a little lighter. RR's suggestion of the 120gr ballistic tip is probably a great fit. 7mm-08 is a super round, imo.

If you are going to reload pick something with a high BC. Berger VLD, Nosler Accubond LR, SST, Nosler Ballistic TIP, SST and Nosler Ballistic are pretty much the same thing. AMAX works really good for the deer down here. I don't know about the deer size where you are. For deer though I tend to stay away from the Barnes, Hornady GMX kind of bullets. I have used SST, Hornady Interlocks and my dad has used the Corelockt, federal blue box, SST and they all usually die with in 40 yards. Just pick something with a high BC and buy multiple weights and shoot multiple charges. It is a dialing game now. I personally would start with Berger.

high BC only helps beyond 600 yards if your shooting long distance high BC is awesome, for most hunting its a moot point. the 7/08 is running out of steam at those ranges anyways unless you have a long barreled long range rig.

At one time I was working 12 hour days 7 days a week and had the money to blow on those high priced Nosler bullets. those days are gone and being on a fixed income I get things that work and twice the quainty for less than the premium stuff.
I use this bullets in my 7mm08 and am very impressed with the performance and will not go back to a Nosler unless they were to give them to me free of charge.
