lots of bullets
 

On a separate thread of accubonds and particians a lot of (excellent) opinions was expressed. I' d like to expand that to all the bullets. We handloaders are really in hog heaven with all the bullets available to us.

I' m not interested in bullets for deer....they should be treated as just big varmints.....many of them weighing less than 120 pounds field dressed.

I' m talking about bullets for elk, moose and caribou and from the .270 to the .375 H&H. These are frequently $4,000 hunts at a minimum and the cost of bullets might be a minor consideration to a hunter.

Assuming you care enough to send the very best.......what are you shooting at this class of game?

BTW for me it' s a 200 grain Swift A-Frame in .308 caliber.

I hear great things about Swift A-Frames. I would try them for sure if I was to hunt the larger game animals in North America.

Barnes X bullets if my gun would shoot them. Some guns won' t I have a rifle that shoots 10-12 inch groups with Barnes X bullets while it shoots most other bullets quite well. My 257 Roberts shoots Barnes X pretty well. My next choice if it would not shoot Barnes would be the Nosler Partition. After that I would be happy to draw from a hat for Hornady interlocks Remington Cor-locs Speer Grandslam. Never shot A frames but then I mostly just hunt those silly old big varmits.:( I quess I could kill them with a rock or stick.

Vap the only elk I' ve ever shot was a BIG Gila/Apache Forest bull from NM. He had a TERRIBLE reaction to the Xbullet my Knight put through his boiler room! :D
The next time I take a rifle for elk it will be 180 Xbullets in my Warbird. I likewise prefer the Xbullets for those " varmints" you spoke of as well. I also like Failsafes and Trophy Bondeds. I know a few guys that like the old Speer Grand Slams, though personally I think they are no different than a Partition what few I ever used. I know somewhere along time ago in a galaxy far far away I used a few A-Frames but as more and more the norm, my memory wont let me recall such exactness.

One other Swift bullet I always wanted to try but havent is the Sciroccos. They seem to have all the best designs in the best places, but I dont know anyone that has used them. I would think in heavier weights they would be great for large plains animals at long range!

RA. I ran into a 500 lb black bear in SK that had the same reaction to the 350 grain Hornady round nose that hit him in top of the head.:D Marlin 45-70.

Inuit Indians shoot Caribou with 22 win mags so I don' t see the need for a lot f caliber horsepower for them. A 7 mag shooting 140 grain ballistic tips is more than adequate for Caribou as would any of the standard calibers shooting run of the mill bullets. As far as Elk and Moose go 338 Win mag and a 225 grain partition will kill anything I am running into rather easily and the the backup rifle is a 7 mag and it is shooting 160 grain partitions for those two animals 140 grain for the bou.

I shoot all of my animals with the same bullet. I hunt Whitetail, Mule deer, Black bear, Antelope & Elk. I use Nosler Partitions on everything. I like to keep it simple & have one load for every gun. I have a 270, 7mm.STW & 300win mag. This year I am going to try the 200-grain Nosler Accubond in my 300 on elk. I will stick to the Partitions in the other two rifles.
My wife will try the 160-grain Accubond in her 7mm. ultra mag.
The Accubond' s group a little better for me than the Partition. I think the end result will be the same?
