GMX and TTSX
Anybody reload 165 Hornady GMX, or 168 ttsx in their 30-06? If so what powder are you using? Hodgdon’s site mentions H4350 for the GMX and I’m hoping the ttsx is close to it in length.
Anyone know the length of the 165 GMX bullet? Barne’s website is good about detailing the bullet length, but haven’t seen that on Hornady’s site. Still fine tuning my 165 Nosler bt loads with H4350; travel has made reloading a once, or twice a year , if I’m lucky type of situation. Anxious to try the OCW method with this 30-06 load and my 338 winny load. |
Did a little more looking on the internet and found that the 165 gmx length is around 1.425 inches according to an independent source.
Barnes website says 1.418 inches for the 168 ttsx. Anybody with Quick Loads program mind running the following: 30-06 w / 168 grain Barnes ttsx H4350 55.4 grains max 51 grains min C.O.L 3.225 inches 22 or 24 inch barrel |
Forgot to add B.C. of 0.470 for the 168 grain TTSX, not sure if its needed.

Anybody know if the latest Barnes manual shows any 30-06 loads with H4350?

I don't load Barnes i like GMX better. I have used H 414 56 grains up to 58 grains and H 4350 56.5 up to 58.5 and IMR 4831 57.5 up to 59.5 H 414 at 57 grains gave me the best with 165 grain GMX. I use GMX in all my guns .243, .270, 7mm-08, 30-06

Thanks for the scoop White Duck.
How do u like the GMX'S on game? Only had one doe get a chance to meet the ttsx, but for a double lung with ribs being the biggest bone I still got about 2 inch exit wound. Was shooting way more gun then needed, but wanted to see what it would do. |
I just think the GMX expands more because of the zinc a little softer. dont get wrong they both hold the weight and don't fall apart. plus if you have a SST load that you like just put a GMX instead. I like cooper or gilded metal bullets because you don't have to shoot as heavy bullet i can shoot 165 instead of 180 grain

168 gr TTSX
I've never shot the GMX bullets, but my .300 Weatherby really likes the 168 gr TTSXs. I can get 100 yd 3 shots touching groups at 3250 fps.
I used them in South Africa last year on 5 animals from a Klipspringer at 314 yds to a Sable at about 40 yds. I couldn't have asked for better bullet performance. |
Barnes #4 has H4350 for the 165 TSX at
Min. 52 Max 55.5 |

Appreciate it! Looks like its what I suspected ; extremely close to the GMX'S data. Might have to break down & get the Barnes #4 manual this fall.

Tough to get load data for Barnes; only their website and limited Hodgdon info show Barnes loads.
Anybody know any other places to get load data for Barnes? |

I have Barnes #4 and think it is the worst reloading manual that I have ever bought. Very limited data, and huge amounts of promotional material (adoring letters from dedicated users, etc.).
Works keeping me from my real job of building the loading bench, but guess the OT never hurts and might even give me an excuse to pick up Nosler's #7 manual. Couple new manuals helps ease the summer doldrums :happy0001: |
