Default cast bullet for 22-250

I just traded for a H&R ultra varment 22-250 and am having trouble finding bullets and reloading stuff I am thinking about
getting a mold and casting some.
With a gas check how hot can I get a 55 grain bullet. What do you think.

Thanks James

I found several cast bullet loads for a 22-250 in a old Lyman book with different bullets and powders ranging from 1300 to 2200 fps. They should be good for plinking and small game.
Has anybody tried.

Because everyone's hoarding .22 Rimfire?

But, a good point nonetheless.

Thanks for the chuckle! So sad but true!

If you are patient and watch you can find .224 lead. Nosler had some overrun stuff on their shooters pro shop website the other day and Natchez had 2 different bulk 55g Hornady FMJ's in stock...they are all gone today but if you are patient and persistent you can find it.

Why not just buy .224 dia Hornet bullets and load them light and not have to worry about both the leading of the barrel and all the headaches of casting for something of the such. I used to load a 250 and a 220 Swift light for S&G's with 700x powder and 40grn Hornet bullets. Worked great. Groundhog inside 150yds never knew the difference.

If you want to push a lead bullet to full 22-250 velocities you would more than likely need to paper patch the bullet. .224 diameter bullets are hard enough for me to load let alone try and paper patch.

I load the 22-250, my favorite critter getter..

I load a 55gr and 40gr, I can tell you that when I stay in the 3600 - 3700 with both of those weights , I get a 3 shot - one hole @ 100 yard group..but when I take them both over the 3700fps - they both open up a little bit...as for the casting bullets, good luck with that, let me know how that turns out.I just by all the Hornady sx bullets and shoot them critters with them..but I go to Ballistic Tips when shooting paper for groups..

Anything in the 224 caliber is OUT OF STOCK - thats pretty much every dealer in the USA right now and so long as that Rat Turd is in office - it will remain that way

Waste of time across the board. Full power or slightly reduced loads will destroy cast bullets and terribly lead your barrel. Reduced loads for the purpose of plinking or small game is more trouble than it's worth. Why wouldn't you just use a standard bullet and load for plinking or small game? Unless you just like making life hard on yourself, then by all means....
