300 Win Mag???
Just picked up a new Ruger M77 Mark II in 300 Win. Mag. I will be reloading for it and was wondering if there is anything I should know about this fine round.
First off, I had a hell of a time finding brass. Got lucky and found three bags at a local Bass Pro Shop. Everyone else was out of stock. I will more then likely load up some 165 gr. and 180 gr. loads. Any suggestions on a good powder to use? I have been looking over different reload manuals , but none give any good info on what would be a better powder to use. I will be use this gun for hunting at moderate ranges. Thanks. |
The slower burning rifle powders are a natural choice for the .300 Win. Mag. H4350, IMR 4350 and RL-22 are good powders for 150-165 grain bullets. For the heavier 180-200 grain bullets H1000, H4831, IMR 4831, IMR 7828, RL-22, and RL-25 are among the recommended powders.

I use 79 grains of h4350 short cut behind 180 grain bullet in my 300 wby. Thats to hot for a 300 win, but the 4350 should be good for a win. Ive tried H1000 an did not like it as much as the h4350 for lighter bullets but do like it for the heavier ones.

I found that the 300 win mag prefers to be loaded warm. Stick to the heavier bullets 180 grain and up. Mine liked the 190 grain boat tails and bigger. IMR 4831 will do it all for the 300.
