H414 - belted mags & 30-06
Anybody use this in their belted mags or 30-06? Thinking about trying it with 160 grain or 180 grain bullets in 338 win mag. 30-06 would e 125 or 150 grain. Winters coming and these would be good tinkering projects....

57.0gr of H414 with 165gr Hornady BTSP's have been the pet load for my Win 70 on .30/06 for quite some time.
|
Thanks for the scoop. Load I worked up with H4350 was similar to yours but just a little lower. 54 grains with 165 nosler ballistic tip.
|
H414 is very accurate in my Interarms .30-06 using both Speer and Sierra 150 grain SP bullets, and extremely accurate with the 200 grain Nosler partition bullet (1/4" groups at 100 yards).
Tried it in my .338 Win. magnum, but it didn't perform so well in that gun/cartridge combo for some reason. |
Thanks for the scoop 16.. Any idea what kind of velocity you're getting with the 200 Nosler?
|
I believe I have chrony data for that load somewheres, but I don't have it right at my finger tips......give me some time to try and find it.

Years ago it was my go to powder in my 30/06 with 150gr Hornady Boat tail.
I was getting right at 3000ft per sec. on my chronograph. Worked almost as well with 165gr bullets. |
Thanks for the info Palmer.. Did your gun shoot better with warmer loads or mild ones? Guessing by velocity you mentioned it was warmer loads.
