Default 308 win Powder?

Suggestions for a 308 winchester powder?

Doesn't use Reloader powders.

44.0 grains of Varget behind a 168 gr. A-Max (G1 BC of 0.475) seems to be what my rifle likes best. 2640 fps from a 20" 1:10 barrel and sub-1/2 MOA.

I've had good luck with both IMR 4064 and Varget.

The nice quirk about a 308 is that they are not usually particular about powder choice. IMR 4064 and WW 748 are great.

vihtavouri n550 has been very accurate with all bullets that ive put infront of it but it is not very powerfull from my rifle. blc-2 from my rifle has been very picky and only one load works, but that load works extremely well and all loads ive tried were very powerfull. varget was a real let down in my rifle. it has been the go to 308 powder for alot of people but it isnt my first choice but it is very powerfull. my all round hunting load is made with reloader 15. i have no idea why you dont want to use it. yes i find it a little dirtier then other but it definitely produces the accuracy and energy im looking for. if you are doing specialty loads with light bullets give viht n133 a try. it produces very good accuracy, low flash, burns clean and is usually the most available viht powder. if i had to pick one powder for use with a variety of bullets it would n550 as it may not be the most powerfull .308 powder but it has near zero flash, it burns extremely clean, most loads dont have to be compressed and is extremely stable in most temps. ive also never been able to heat up my barrel to the point where i felt i needed to let it cool using n550. i have got my guns barrel pretty hot using rl 15 and varget in as little as 20 rounds. i have shot 50 round strings using n550 with almost no degradation of accuracy.

I recently bought an AR-10 so I have been working up loads in .308 for it. So far I have found CFE-223 pushing a 155gr match king works pretty well. Varget seems to be a top choice by many and I have been working up loads with it. BLC-(2) seems to be a good one as well. I have some 748 that I was going to work with as well but just don't have the time to spend that I need to work on loads.

IMR 4064 has always been a good powder for the Win .308!
