Hornady Interbond
 

Has anyone tried the new Hornady Interbond bullets? I was thinking about trying them in my 30-06.

I have a dear friend that has fired some 165 .308 cal bullets and he is very positive about them....they are still in short supply....be patient.

I loaded up some for my son-inlaw' s .308 and they shoot great,we' ll see how they preform this deer season...;)

I reloaded my 270 with the 130 grain SST Interbonds and tried them out yesterday.My groups at 100 yds were excellent .I also shot one into a line of several 1/2 gallon plastic bottles filled with water and recovered it.My reloading friend and I were very extremely pleased with the amount of mushrooming it did (more than any bullet I have seen).It weighed 115 1/2 grains afterwards.I am very impressed that it is as advertised by Hornady.Of course ,I can' t wait to try it out on a whitetail this winter and see if it performs as well on a nice buck as it did on those plastic bottles.

I made some penetration/weight retention test with the .308 150 grain Interbond bullet. I was very impressed by them. I want a bullet that expands to at least double the original diameter and still retains a high percentage of weight for good penetration. On top of it, I want excellent accuracy too boot. The Nosler Partition had performed well, but due to its design they have a low ballistic coefficent. The Interbonds have a high BC and performed well. I fired four bullets from a .308 W. The MV was 2775 fps. Bullets were fired into water soaked newspapers from 95 yards, 75 yards, 40 yards and 20 feet. here are the results.

95 yard=penetrated 13 1/8" and expanded to .684" . Weight was 136.7 grains for 91%.

75 yards=penetrated 14" and expanded to .698" Weight was 134.7 for 90%.

40 yards=penetrated 11 3/4" and expanded to .714" . Weight was 132.6 for 88 %

20 feet=penetrated 15 5/8" and expanded to .764" . Weight was 132.6 for 88%.

The 40 yard shot penetrated the least. I thing that may have been due to the bullet hitting a slick hard magazine that are included in papers. I' ve tested a lot of bullets over the years, but these are the best results I' ve seen.

So far the accuracy test are very promising. I have one test left, but haven' t been able to get out due to a bad leg giving me fits. I think these are going to be the only bullets I use in the future.[&:]
