This probably ain' t what you want to hear but....
Actually, that is exactly the kind of info I' m looking for. I' m a fairly experienced muzzleloader shooter, and I know how picky ML' s can be about bullet selection, and I kindof figured that CF rifles would also have certain preferences, only probably a lot less pronounced. CF rifles are made to stricter standardized dimensions than ML' s are, so I figured that the CF rifles would probably fire most bullets pretty well, with some excelling.

there' s no reason why one would not use a target bullet on varmints
Actually there are two very good reasons............the plastic tips are not prone to ricochet like hollow points, and the performance is erratic with target bullets on the critters with one passing right thru and the next exploding like a varmint bullet.Call Sierra and talk to them.......they will reccomend Blitzkings for varmint not Matchkings, and they make both.

Hornady V-Maxes - Nosler Ballistic tips - Sierra Blitzkings are all good.........let your rifle pic which it likes the most

has anyone ever tested hornadys odd shaped v-max to see if it bucks the wind like it says better than a nosler or sierra?

driftrider,

IMHO, the Nosler Ballistic Tips in 55 grains give me outstanding accuracy in my .22-250. The rest of the package is Winchester brass, H-Varget powder and CCI BR2 primers. Usually I' m not completely happy the accuracy of most rifles. That is not the case with this .22-250. Good luck.[&:]

hey BB30-06,I' ve also been working with a Varget load in the 22-250 with Winchester brass and BR2 primers only with a 50grain V-Max.What powder charge are you using?Preparing to play with the 55grain next and would like to hear what has given you the best accuracy.I have found 36.5-37 grains give the best results with the fifties although this is a heavy load and should be worked up to slowly while checking for pressure signs along the way.

woodseye,

In my .22-250 I use 36.5 grains of H-Varget. It is a dandy. I' ve tried Varget in several different cartridges and it seems as if a max, or near max, loads give the best accuracy. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Good luck.[&:]
