Fastest reloading
Guys I have a question, I have a 308 I intend to use as a back up gun this fall and I don't have a lot of time to go to the range, what is the fastest way to get a accurate load. Do you start with a good bullet and try different powders or do you start with a good powder and try different bullets? I have taken this rifle to the range twice it's a Ruger American, so far the average accuracy is 1.5 inch at a 100 yards and I have found a combo that will shoot better than that but I just don't get enough range time to do all the testing that I would love to do so any help will be great.

Back up for what game? Whats the twist? What range? How hot is your wife and how long will you be gone?

Thx for the information RR, I will try the Nosler and Win 748 and it just so happens my Dad has some of Both components on hand!

Start with a bullet you think will work for the game you hunt first. Second slect the powder you think you would like to use. Start at the base load according to the manuals and work up from there with 3 to 5 shot groups.
I use a load from a old 45th edition Lyman reloading book. 150gr bullet and a charge of IMR 3031 powder. It has served me well for 40 years whitetail hunting in Michigan. :D Al |
If it's just a back up then go buy a box of 165 premuim anything, sight it in and put it away
