Reloading for Hog, Deer and Elk with 300 WinMag
Hi. I am new to the hunting scene and have plenty of experience reloading all handgun calibers plus .243, 30-06 and 338 Lapua.
My hunting rifle I just purchased is a Winchester Model 70 using a 300 WinMag round. Here is what I am looking to find for each different animal as a starting point. I will probably adjust the charge slightly to maximize accuracy based on the sinusoidal wave of the barrel when firing: Hog Bullet Manufacturer / Model: Bullet Weight: Powder Manufacturer / Type: Velocity: Deer Bullet Manufacturer / Model: Bullet Weight: Powder Manufacturer / Type: Velocity: Elk Bullet Manufacturer / Model: Bullet Weight: Powder Manufacturer / Type: Velocity: For all of these do you recommend CCI or Winchester Primers? Thanks. Mike |
I use pretty much one load for everything (because I like to keep things simple):
WLRM primers, 75 gr RL 22, and 180 gr Accubonds. |
Use a Barnes triple shock for all three.

I use 180 grain speer grand slams behind 76gr of IMR4831 getting 5/8" groups at 100 yds....pretty much the same results with the 180 partition protected point and mid load of H4350. that'll open up in soft smaller animals but still will plow through the larger animals. Experiment - that's the fun of reloading. Good Luck and keep us posted!
