I strongly recommend you never seat bullets less than one diameter deep.

RE: Seating bullets

I have seated bullets as shallow as 00.00" especially when fire forming cases, but I make sure and start at mininum load. Good luck.

Alright guy' s I' m just getting started in reloading and I' m pretty dumb so if you don' t mind giving the depth in 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4 something like that I' d appreciate it.

I have a 30.06 that i load a 130grn bullet for which is sort of short and the bullet is seated just over a 1/16 but not quite to 1/8 into the case. I know thats not much bullet in the case but i' ve never had any problems with it seated that way and this particular rifle is very accurate with the bullet seated at this depth. This is the only bullet i load for my 30.06 that is seated that shallow, the 150grn bullets are seated much deeper.

One caliber is the norm. I used to do less, but you really need that much to firmly hold the bullet when chambering.

6.5 Carcano:

Have you invested in a caliper for precision measurements? If you haven' t you really need to get one. Usually when seating bullets close to the riffling one deals in thousands of inches. You need one to measure C.O.L. The dial indicator type will run you about $20.00, electronic LCD type will run you about $35.00 to $65.00. Good luck.
