Barnes lovers! . . . .050" jump? Do you play with this?

Barnes recommends a .050" jump because the solid copper bullets don't compress when entering the lands like a lead core bullet. Creates TOO much pressure.
I buy that . . . but my question is this; do you guys "play" with that factiry recomendation or just go with it?
And do you have success "massageing" the .050" jump?
I'm shooting a Savage model 11 in .308.

.050" Bullet Jump

I've used between .030 & .050 with the Barnes TSX & had good accuracy and velocity. I did some with .010 & backed off the charge weight & increased slowly and actually surpassed max load in my manual by 2.5 gr with H4831 before seeing pressure signs and it was flattened primers so nothing really bad like hard bolt lift. However, I got better groups when seating at .050 like Barnes suggest than I did at other COAL whether closer/farther from the lands in my 280 Rem. I did break 3K fps over my Chrony with the load using both H4831SC & RL19. Hope this helps.

Although I am not really a "Barnes lover", I load them in a couple of different rifles if maximum penetration is the goal. If I load them too close to maximum OAL I get erratic performance. Normally I stay in the range of .05 to .07 and get acceptable results.

I have had amazing results with the 130gr TSX out of my 270WSM. I have went way closer than .05 The load I settled on is .002 off lands. I have been able to go several gr over max load with only flat primers also. and screaming bulllets. My hunting load is at 3505fps. I love these bullets they shoot awesome and kill better than any other bullet i have used.

Wow! That is nearly 300 fps over any listed load. Flat primers indeed.

I'm going with the LRX's in .308. I feel better about playing with the jump now. Always careful though!
I've also been perplexed by all the different "minimum" and "maximum" loads in the various data book/sites. Barnes only shos 2 powders and load data! For most of their bullets.
I also suspect I will compress more lighter loads with the LRX because they are so much longer than a conventional lead core bullet.

yes it is. I was amazed i even borrowed a second chrono just to make sure mine wasn't crazy. The rifle this is being shot out of(Browning m-1000 Eclipse 26" barrel) has surpassed all published velocity and is by far the best shooting rifle I have ever shot. The load specs are as follows. 130gr barnes tsx .002 off lands, norma brass trimmed to 2.090, win magnum primers, 75gr! Accurate Magpro, I know way more than max load of 72.0gr. How ever I have been surprised to see very minimal signs of pressure. I have a pic of fired brass, target, and chrony report from my master crhony.

Oh and by the way I am very proud of this target best I have ever fired.
