So, I'm pretty new here, this is my second post but, eh?

So a few weeks ago I picked up my dream gun. A brand new Winchester Model 70 sporter, caliber 30-06.*

Man do I love it. The stock is absolutly beautiful, covered in fiddleback, the checkering is clean and crisp, and the finish is flawless. The new MOA trigger is amazing. No creep, no over travel, no slack. Breaks like glass. The bolt is the smoothest I've ever felt. I like it better than the finest Sako. I stuck leupold duel dovetail scope mounts on it, but unfortunately that's all the wife would let me splurge on. So currently it's wearing a Nikon Buckmaster 4-14 instead of the Vortex Viper I want. Oh well. Save some more $ I guess.*

I have some hand loads I worked up I worked up for my ol pre 64 Winchester, they shoot about a minute in my new one, but here lately, I don't know why, I've really been getting into factory ammo. Just had surgery. Maybe it's the meds. Who knows?*

So I picked up some Federal Premium's with the 165 Trophy Bonded Tip bullets, and some Hornady Superformance with the 165 SST's (they go 2960 fps, no foolin!!! I chronyed it!!!) The Trophy Bonded tips shot about 2 minutes, the Hornady's about a minute. So finally, here's the question. What factory ammo do you all like? I've never had good luck with cor-lokt's, inaccurate as hell. I'd like to try some 180 Oryx's from Norma, kind of exotic, but what the hell, right? What do you guys like? Favorite hand loads count too.

What my rifle likes does not predict what yours will like. I tried a half dozen factory loads in a Ruger 1 30-06, all shot horrible. Good reloads using 165 gr Accubonds and a moderate dose of H4350, Remy primers yields 5 shots into about 1.25". Not the most accurate gun in the safe by any means but wicked on whitetails when I do my part.

I have two 06's in ruger and remington. Both shoot good groups with a 165gr bullet over 56gr of IMR4350. Thats the load I use all the time. I only hunt whitetails and yotes, the bullets I use are BT's and Gamekings.

I've had some good performance outta my Savage '06 with Wolf Gold 180gr.

The old 06 is still a great caliber. In my old 98 I have always had very good accuracy and stopping power on whitetails and mulies using 150 gr. Sierra ProHunters along with H414 powder. For elk, 165 Accubonds are hard to beat. Enjoy that new Winchester.

I have a mod. 700 bdl and shoot 180 gr. hornady sst. pushed with 55 gr. imr 4350 and cci primer. my groups are 3/4 in. or better at 100 yards. i've brought down many deer and a few mature bull elk with them at ranges from 30 yards to 300 yards. good luck.

I have not bought any factory ammo in about 3 years, since I started reloading. My handloads are more accurate then any of the factory loads I tried. In my 06, I settled with IMR4350, 55.5 grains for my 180 gr. load (Sierra prohunter, and Hornady BTSP) and 55.3 grains for my 165gr. load (Nosler Balistic tip and Accubond).

I loaded some 165 gr. Accubonds over 55.3 gr. IMR4350 for a friend last year and he dropped a bull elk at 250 yards with one shot, where he stood.

I'm getting about 2580 FPS with the accubonds, 2625 with the prohunters, and 2700 with thw Hornady BTSP (crimped). Winchester or Federal Match primers.

im still shooting my old faithful 721 06.this mite sound crazy but if my hand loads shoot as good as old core lokts ive gotta good load.

my BAR likes factory 180gr. psp's or Rn's. but with reloads my bar likes 165gr. sierra gameking BTSP's. my abolt likes 165gr. sierra gamekings and hornady 165gr. BTSP. even though i have had core seperations with the hornady interlokt's
