Does anyone have a Hodgen reloading book or have a load book that gives the load for:

RE: Need help?
Handloader1,
Thanks for checking. I went to Hodgens website and read their write up about " loading down" loads. They say to use this specific powder because it burns slower and ignites uniformly in reduced loads. I have a load w/ this particular powder but it is w/ a 140 gr bullet. I would like to use this powder and a 100gr bullet for strictly plinking and practicing off hand shooting. Basically Hodgens theory of loading down is to find a load using this particular powder. Take the max charge and multiply it by 60%. " The shooter can create a load 1500 to 2100 fps." ex. H4895 42.6 gr. 140gr bullet reduced= H4895 25.6gr. 140 gr. bullet My old load for my 100 gr spire point was: H4871 59.2 gr. If this works right I can shoot twice as much at the same price. |
RE: Need help?
LAHUNTER,
The Hodgdon manual for .270Win 100gr bullets calls for 47.0 to 50.0gr of H4895 - this gives a velocity range of 3300fps to 3400fps and pressures from 47,000CUP to 50,200CUP out of a 24" barrel. Good Luck |
