a couple more questions on reloading
can someone please explain some of the terminology for shotshell reloading...its pretty confusing looking for a reloader..im not sure what comes with it and what i need to get...all i need is a single stage press to load target loads and 3/3/4 by 1/1/8 loads for rabbits. Does this mean i need to buy different charge bars and stuff? And what if i want to load steel, 3", turkey loads ect? is it hard to adjust it to these new speca and will i have to buy other things for it if i want to. I am looking at the mec sizmaster. Will this come with things i need to reload a shell (mnus powder primer, shot, wads and hull) right out of the box. Any comment would be appreciated

RE: a couple more questions on reloading
The stock chargebar takes bushings for different size throws on both shot and powder. All you'll need to get is the proper size bushings (the unit will probably come with a couple but they might not be the ones you need). There is an adjustable charge bar on the market that you don't use bushings with. Depending on how many bushings you end up buying for different loads it might or might not be cheaper to get the adjustable bar. But it does allow you to fine tune the amounts thrown easier if you get into it hot and heavy.
A reloading scale would be a good thing to have so you can double-check loads. As for steel, I'm not sure. An email to Mec or the catalog company you're looking at might be a good idea. |
RE: a couple more questions on reloading
GT pretty well covered it but I would recommend a steelmaster instead of the sizemaster if your reloading steel shot . It will come with everything to load ,but only three powder bushings.Steel shot is a bit different than lead to load .There is some press adjustments to be made between 2 3/4 and 3" shells . I quit loading steel and buy it a case at a time on clearance sales.I couldn't load it for what I could buy it for .

RE: a couple more questions on reloading
thanks guys...sounds like i should just get the 600. does anyone know of a general manuel for shotshell reloading. Also it comes w/ a 1/1/8 oz charge bar, does this work with all diffent shot sizes cause it looks like it works by difectly corelating the wieght to the volume..and different shot sizes have diffent volumes for the same weight. thanks

RE: a couple more questions on reloading
I don't have a book on general shotshell reloading because I only load one type of shell. The wads I buy for those shells have reloading data with them so I just use that. If you are going to be using a number of different shells then a book may be useful. And if you just want more general info a book wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I think the 1 1/8 charge bar will work for a number of different shot sizes, although I believe it's based on 7 1/2 shot. That's where a reloading scale will come in handy, so you can double check the weights thrown of both shot and powder. |
RE: a couple more questions on reloading
It works for other sizes of shot .I don't know how close it is on exact weight but the volume has to fit the wad and powder charge .
