Best 243 bullet for deer
 

I want the best bullet 80 grain or under that retains its weight the best for least meat damage on deer.

What twist rate does your .243 have that you want a bullet less than 80 grains for deer hunting ?

What builder said...I have had better luck with Noslers in my 243's than I have with Barnes...IMO either the Ballistic tips or Partitions have performed well in my 243...but like Sheridan said...what rate twist do you have? I have found that the 100g Partitions have performed the best in most every 243 I have owned....and I have had several makes and models from Browning to H&R...

I used a .243 for years on deer and shot a good many with Hornady's old reliable 100 gr Interlock bullet. And all but one was DRT. Of course back then the Barnes weren't yet made. Today I MIGHT try the Barnes bullet but then again, why fix what isn't broke!

X2 on hornady. Best thing you could do is buy a box of each and shoot them side by side to see which shoots best out of your rifle.

EDIT: The only bullet that can keep from damaging meat is a an accurate one. Put it behind the shoulder thru the rib cage and the only meat you will damage is the shanks and rib meat which personally I don't mind loosing.

Hornady has a new 80 grain GMX out that is supposed to be very similar to the Barnes bullet.

JMO, having used the .243 on dozens of deer and pronghorn since 1978, 80 grain bullets will achieve exactly what you intend to avoid in regard to tissue damage unless you slow them down to 100 grain velocities. Best just to use 100 grain on deer, save the 80s for long coyotes or for prairie dogs.

When I'm not shooting green box CoreLokts, I generally load Hornady Interlocks as well. I found long ago that Sierra GKs left their jackets behind them too often. Never felt the need for Noslers.
