..... Tell ya what.. There's no way this 'ol boy is going to touch off a 54 gr. charge of H4198 in my 1895. No way...

PA you and I shoot the exact same load out of my Guide Gun. I shot 3 bear with that load and if smacks the crap out of em. The same load shoots even better out of my Browning 78. But with its steel buttplate, it really gets your attention.

Last year did 44g, Lyman max is 46.5 I believe. What I find interesting is that Hornady has the max around 49.5, both claiming 1900 fps. So far just loaded up to Lyman. Don't think i really needed it but wanted some extra for bear hunting. Plus last year shooting at 45 back ribs to front shoulder stoppd at hide. Openned very nice. But no exit. Never made that shot before so I can't say.

People go on about 45-70, but I really don't find the recoil all that more than 30-06 with max loads of 180.

I get better groupings with 30-06. Not sure if load or me. I think between heavy trigger or short barrel get alot of muzle flip, so can't rest it like I do a 30-06. 60 yards is longest I ever shot usually around 20-40. So not a real big deal.

Probably try another powder for the heck of it, but I suspect it is me. Loaded up some practice rounds.
