Max COL 300RUM you would safely load
I got those new Accubonds 200gr for my 300RUM. I can load these bad boys really long and still be much greater than .308" in the neck. According to my Stoney Point, I have to load 3.82" COL to hit the lands. I know these 300RUM are supposed to have some freebore or pressure will shoot up. So I loaded 3.75" Re25 84gr - 91gr, 9.5 primer. I know SAAMI specs is 3.6" and I usually load 3.65" max. Whats the longest you guys load this? I want accuracy.

I agree. Another guy I know had a 300RUM made with no freebore so at a COL of 3.6" , he would be in the lands. He said he might as well throw the reloading books away and had to drop the loads by 10% for max.

How do they fit the magazine at 3.750" ?My magazine is only 3.680"

RE: Max COL 300RUM you would safely load
Oh, fitting in the Mag stops at 3.64" . Thats out the window. I just want some good clover leaf groups. For target shooting out to 600 yards.

DG...you mean Remington copied something from Weatherbys handbook? I' m shocked

RE: Max COL 300RUM you would safely load
No, didn' t copy, just improved upon. Less freebore, no belt, tad faster, gotta love it.

bigcountry, you also left off 30 grains of powder to gain 100-150fps, more recoil, and the factory loaded ammo almost costs as much...not to mention feed problems with the ammo...

RE: Max COL 300RUM you would safely load
I have had three of them. Never had a feed problem. I never met too many with them either. As far as the powder, goes, the average is 13gr extra. As far as recoil, I happen to have access to both a 300Weatherby and 300RUM. Still waiting for someone to show up for the challenge of betting me they can tell the difference in recoil with the same bullet, same pressures. And hey, they are both remingtons. Any takers. I can' t tell the difference with most loads. I was shooting Re25 and 200Swift A-Frames for moose hunting and could tell the slight difference.
Factory ammo, lets see, I can get 200gr Nosler Partitions for my 300RUM for 31 dollars. Guess how much for Weatherby? Guess how much for Weatherby brand with Nosler Partitions. And far as speed, I don' t find my most accurate load at the max pressures. For example, my .5MOA load is 180gr Nosler Partition and 93gr of H1000 with a 250 primer. It shoots 3090fps on average. The weatherby is 83gr Compressed of H1000 with a 180gr Nosler Partition with average velocity of 3050fps. So, could you explain further what you meant. Surely you jest. |

Sorry oldelkhunter for the long post, it just errks me when I hear another shootist complain about recoil. Come on, its our hobby, we should be able to handle this recoil.
