7mm WSM

I just got a Browning X-bolt 7mm WSM, and i want to reload for it, can anyone tell me what would be good powder to start with, i will be trying a few different bullets between 150 grain to 160 grain all good enough to take an elk, i would just like to know where to start with as far as powder since there are so many different ones listed in every reloading book out there. Thanks

Try here first:

I would start with IMR7828ssc(SuperShortCut), Retumbo, or AlliantReloader 25

And would also use a Mag primer as well.

Hope this helps :)

Retumbo is a little slow. I've tried it, I didn't get great accuracy, but I am only working with one bullet. You might have better luck.

I've heard people like H1000 in 7wsm on other forums, and that is what I would like to try next.

Otherwise, RL22, H4831, IMR7828, RL17, or Magpro would be some more to look at. Alliant has some new power pro powders listed that promise good velocity.

Definitely use the magnum primer for spherical powders. Not a bad idea in any case.

My best load for accuracy was 140 triple shocks and H4350. That was a good load, but I want to use higher bc bullets in the wsm and us my 30-06 for shorter range hunting.

I reload for the 270 WSM and the 300 WSM and get my best results with Alliant's RL-19. I worked up these loads before RL-17 was on the market. RL-17 was made for the short mags, and I'll try it when I buy more powder.

+1 for either 4350 and 4831,of course I hail from the old school.

I have had good luck with both the H4831sc and the H4350 on all of my WSM and WSSM rounds.
