Superformance in 30-06

This powder just came out from Hodgdon, but can't find any load data for the 30-06. I went to their site and thay have only a few loads listed for certain cals. Went to Hornadys site and found nothing on that site either. I see that Hodgdon has a annual manual and am wondering if they have some data in it? Hornady has factory loads for the 30-06 in Superformance. Anyone have loads or a source to get loads for the 06 and some other cals. like 270win and 270wsm? Zeak

There's an article in the current annual manual. It states that Superformance is only good in certain calibers in certain situations. They go on to say that just because it works great in .243 doesn't mean you can use it in 6mm rem despite the fact they are very close to the same.

Why they offer it in factory loads for .30-06 and don't offer recipes I don't know, but suffice to say this is a highly specialized powder.

You would have to try contacting Hornady or Hodgdon.

So there is some data for that powder in the manual, but I didn't buy it, I only read it while killing time waiting for the wife at Walmart. Check it out at a newstand.

The new Hodgdon's 2011 Reloading Manual only list a few cartridges with a very few bullets each.
22-250 60 v-max, 70 speer SP
.243 Win 70 Speer TNT HP, 75 Hornady Spire HP
.243 WSSM 70 Nosler BT, 90 Swift Scirocco II
.25 WSSM 100 Speer Spitzer BT, 117 Hornady BT SP
.300 RCM 150 Hornady Interbond, 165 Barnes TSX
.300 WSM 150 Speer Grand Slam, 165 Nosler Partition

Nothing on the .270 Win, .270 WSM or .30-06

Hornady just came out with a new manual. Might want to try that.

JMO - I don't think it's necessary to "soup-up" time-proven cartridges like the .30-06. It's been faring quite well over the years without, y'know? But, I guess I'd far rather see new cartridge technology like "Superformance" than I would yet another (ahem) wonder-mag du jour.

I have two elk rifles, a .30-06 and a .300 Wby. When I've loaded the same bullet in both (the 190-gr Hornady), the .30-06 driven at a shade under 2700 fps held onto its jacket until the very end, even skipping off a rib. On the other hand, almost the same shot with the .300, driven at almost 3000 fps, gave me lots of lead fragments to sift through when I processed it.

For most of my shooting situations since that I expected to be under 300 yards, I've taken the moderate .30-06. It's not until I expect shots over 300, which isn't very often, that the .300 becomes my choice. The .300 spends a lot of time in the safe.

If you want superperformance like velocities just load with RL17.

I am getting 3012 FPS with 168 Nosler BT and 59 grains MAX in my rifle. My OAL is 3.41 and primers are CCI large rifle. According to quickload this load runs just under 65KPSI.

I also load the 200 grain accubond to 2720 FPS with 54 grains MAX and these velocities are from a 22" barrel.

I'm sure that Superperformance powder was developed by Hornady and is sold through Hodgdon. Neither company has data for the 30-06.

Leverevolution powder was also, I think, developed by Hornady and now sold through Hodgdon. Hornady first came out with Leverevolution cartridges; unavailable then for reloading. So, there was a time lapse for reloaders.

Personally, I'm more interested in the extra velocity in the lever action cartridges than the 30-06. Have some reloading to do with the new Leverevolution.

They do make a super performance load for an 30-06, it's called 300 Winny........... LMAO just being sarcastic.
