Sst

I'm going to start reloading for my 270 wsm and was looking at bullets and the hornady sst looks good and is affordable but I'm dot sure what it is like is it like a balistic tip or soft point. It looks like the nosler balistic tips I use in my 3006 but not sure. Also would a 140gr sst be a good deer bullet out to say 325 yards and any reloading info on this round would be apreciated

I've been liking them a lot through my 7RM in 154gr (even prefer them through my muzzleloader). I shoot them seated to the rifling with cci250s and a good dose of RL22-- a similar approach could work for you. They're fairly inexpensive and shoot very well for me, and are devastating on deer.

I like them, I shoot them in my 338 Win Mag., havnt shot any animals with the 338 yet. The 225gr. SST's shoot better in my 338 than 225gr. Nosler Accubond's do. I also use them in my 280, they shoot excellent in it, I killed my deer this year with them, using a 154gr. SST, devastating on deer, like Big Z said.

My Ruger .338 WM was just the opposite. It hated the 225gr SST's and loves 225gr Accubonds. I've got 3/4 of a box of the SST's just collecting dust.

The 117gr fly very nice out of my 25-06. A little explosive up close (<100yds), but good accuracy and terminal performance 250 yds+.

I've used the SST in several cartridges including the .30-06 and find them to be an excellent bullet for deer. For elk sized targets I'd prefer a bonded core bullet such as an accubond or interbond.

I consider the SST to be a soft point even though they are a polymer tipped bullet identical to the ballistic tip.

A 140 SST out of the .270 Winchester is very much a deadly item for a deer.

I have been using the 150gr SST out of my 270 Win for a few years. They sure flatten out the deer. I have not had a pass through with these bullets. When going for elk or moose, I use a heavier constructed bullet like the partition.
