30cal.. bullets

Anyone wanna give there opinon on the best 30-06 bullet. I had a friend load some 165gr boatails and they were really accurate but just didnt perform that well on deer. Thinking of going back to the 150gr, but there are so many bullets out now I don' t which one to choose!

I would go with a good old fashion Nosler Partition. Good luck.

You can try the Hornady SST' s in 165 gr I use the 165 and 150 in my 06 and they do the job for me.

Nosler Partition 165gr.
Just the right mix of expansion vs. penetration for deer.

Deer bullet, 165gr Bullistic Tip

Anything bigger, 165 Partition.

There are a lot of good bullets out there for the 30-06. For deer I have had just as good of results from plain old Hornady 150 grain SP. Nothing I have tried really works any better. I do use Nosler Ballistic tip as well and like them except for real close range. I have seen a few that were a little fragil up close. The are unbeatable for long range shooting.

For years i shot 150grn bullets in my 30.06 for deer and had good luck with just about any brand out there. My best performing and accurate bullet in 150grn was the Hornady Spire point. I know alot of people don' t like to go lighter than 150grn for deer with the 06 but about 6 years ago i started loading and using the Hornady 130grn Spire point for deer with excellent results. If i were going on a pay hunt in another state i would load something heavier but an average deer here in my area weighs about 140 and every once in a while you may see one go near 170/190 if you' re lucky. I' ve killed a lot of deer with this bullet and can honestly say i' ve never lost a deer using the 130grn bullet and killed my biggest ever last fall with it that was 180lbs. All but a couple of the deer i' ve shot with the 130grn bullet have fell in their tracks and the couple that did run didn' t go more than 50yds. Every deer i' ve shot with this bullet has been a pass through with the exception of a couple and those were lodged in the skin on the opposite side after going through both shoulders and they were a perfect mushroom. I think as long as you choose your shots wisely and put the bullet in the vitals it' s gonna kill.
