6.5 carcano

Does any one know the cartridge overall length for this cal. my friend was showing me his rifle, when he closed the bolt it kind of jammed. he went a head a closed it. When he ejected the casing the bullet stayed in the barrel. He said the shells were reloads, so I told him not to shoot it and I would find out what ever I could about his gun.

In the Lee Second Edition manual, the longest OAL is 2.935 and some loads are as short as 2.835. Those are dependent on the various powder charges and bullets being used of course.

Thanks I"ll take the shortest and find out what his measures.

Drive it out with a brass rod from the muzzle. What bullet weight did he make that would help? Likely a 160 gr RN...... OAL should be 2.935"..........140gr-2.915"............129gr-2.935"............Harold

Coinsidently enough 47 years ago today we presume Lee Harvey Oswald used just such a gun to assassinate JFK.

I have one of these guns. I bought it, on a whim, for $40 out of the bargain barrel at a local gun store. It is, by far, the worst shooting gun I ever shot. Accuracy is terrible and I struggled just to get it on paper. Factory ammo is from Norma and very $$$$ and I could not justify wasting ammo on dies. It's been sitting for years :D

It's probably 100% the rifle's fault. I'd imagine the cartridge itself could be pretty accurate in a good rifle.

i've reloaded the 6.5mm Carcano round for over 50 years. The Carcano bore is .268 in diameter. Most Carcano rifles will not shoot well using the .264 bullets that are widely available on the US market. Hornady does make a 160 grain .268 bullet that shoots really well in my Carcano rifles.

Years ago i came into several thousand rounds of 6.5mm Carcano ammo that was made in Italy during WWII. In my rifles that ammo is as accurate as any other WWII milsurp ammo.
