new 30-06 some loads?
 

Just got a CVA Apex, 25" barrel 1:10 twist. I have some 165gr boattails (not sure of brand) and some 180gr bullets ( also not sure of brand) i think the 180s may be hornady.

The Powder i have is H380.

I plan on reloading both bullet weights.

180gr bullet with 51.0 H380 * Thats a max load, any idea on a good starting point would be? *

165gr bullet with 46.0 H380 (Never exceed 52.0 grains) it says.

What do you all think?

That is probably not the best powder for 3006. Different bullets (not just different weights) cause different amounts of pressure. I would pick a bullet and then go from there with published data. I just check my Speer's and Hornady manuals and neither list loads using that powder.

According to the 49th edition of Lyman's Reloading Handbook for the .30-06 Springfield:

165 gr. Jacketed Ballistic Tip using H380. the suggested starting load is 48.5 gr. and a Maximum load of 53.0 gr.

But like Colorado suggested, the pressure will change with different bullets and would be best if you checked the bullet manufacturer's suggested load data.

It did not list H380 for the 180 gr.

You can also go Hodgdon.com and get reloading data using their powder.

MD my go to load for my wife and my 06 is 56.5gr of IMR 4350 over a 165gr nosler bt or sierra gameking.

IMR4350 is a good powder for the '06. But I haven't found a rifle yet in '06 that didn't like IMR4064. My favorite load is 49 gr of IMR4064 with 180 gr Hornady Spire Point or Siera Game King.

If a 30.06 won't shoot 50gr of IMR 4064 or RL15 and a 150 bullet good, get rid of it..

i use fed#210m primers imr 4350 and i believe off the top of my head like 53.0grs on top of sierra gameking 165gr. in both my a-bolt and bar

Myself, I never start at the suggested listed min load, really a waist of powder. If you start at 10% "usually 1.5 -2.0 grains" below listed max you should be fine. Just remember the data you find in reloading manuals are suggested min/max. Let your firearm tell you what your min/max should be as every firearm is different. Sometimes a listed max can be too high and sometimes your able to bump it up a little more and still be within a safe pressure limit. If you work up slow you shouldn't have any problems.

For the 180 grain bullet, other good powders would be H4831, IMR4831, Hybrid 100V, but typically what works best in the 30-06 is whatever can give you the best case fill at or near 100% or even compressed usually around 59-60 grains.
