HORNADY INTERBOND BULLET TEST .308 150 grain
I haven' t found the 165 grain bullets yet, but the 150 grain bullets are available from Cabela' s for $29.00 for a box of a hundred. The first test I ran was to mic and weigh all 100 bullets. Diameters and weight tolerances were closer than any bullet I' ve checked with the exception of the Nosler Ballistic Tips. These two bullets are very, very close. I then ran some performance test. I put all the newspapers in a plastic bin as I could cram. Over a three day period, I filled the bin full of water to insure the papers were completly soaked. Bullets were fired from a .308 Win. with a MV of 2775 fps. Four bullets were fired, these are the results.
Bullet #1 was fired from 100 yards. Penetration depth was 13 1/8" . Retained weight was 136.7 grains for 91% retained weight. The mushroomed bullet at its widest point was .684" and .658 at its narrowest. Bullet length was .424" .
Bullet #2 was fired from 75 yards. Penetration depth was 14" . Retained weight was 134.7 grains for 90% retained weight. The mushroomed bullet measured .698" at its widest point and .626 at its narrowest. Bullet length was .397"
Bullet #3 was fired from 40 yards. Penetration depth was 11 3/4" . More on this later. Retained weight was 132.6 grains for a retained weight percentage of 88%. Widest point of the bullet was .714" and the narrowest .667" . Bullet length was .357"
Bullet #4 was fired from 20 FEET. Depth of penetration was 15 5/8" . Retained weight was 128.7 grains for 86%. Widest point was .764" and .597" at the narrowest. Bullet length was .369"
More on bullet #3, this is just my SWAG, notice that this bullet had the shortest depth of penetration and bullet length. I think this bullet hit some of the hard slick magazines that are included in newspapers, with this result..
ALL wound channels were over 1 1/2" . Penetration depth was determined with a cleaning rod and then measured. When the bullets were recovered, all were still pointing in the original direction of travel. I' ve tested many bullets in this manner and these are the best over all results I' ve ever gotten.
I' m still running accuracy test, but so far, everything looks great. I' ve come up with three different powder charges of Varget that are well under an inch. I also want to run some test with H-4895. When I have some more results I' ll post them. Good luck all.[&:]

this is the first test results I' ve read.....and I' m pleased.....Joyce hornady' s company for over 50 years continues to produce spectacular bullets......and somehow I had confidence that they would.
Sadly I want 180-200 grain .308 bullets!!!

Troy-Do not expect the same performance from the standard sst' s.They are extremely accurate but open up very quickly and shed weight almost identically to nosler ballistic tips. The interbonds are bonded core bullets in order to increase retained weight while the standard sst' s are not bonded.

Troy R,
I' ve done a little testing with the SST, and had decided not to use them. I am pretty demanding on the performance level I expect. The ones I checked lacked the uniformity of the Interbonds and failed to retain the high percentage of weight that the Interbonds did. Accuracy was pretty good. I hope that this is of some help.
Good luck.[&:]

thanks for the info on hte SST! Are the CT Nosler ballistic tips better than the Regular nosler ballistic tips?
I hunt with a .308, but if you wanted to deer hunt with a 22-250 what bullet would you reload?

Troy R,
I can' t comment on the CT bullets because I' ve never worked with them. I think the Nosler Ballistic Tips are a fine long range bullet, for 100 yards and more. If there is a chance that your shots may be at closer range, they maybe too fragile. My experience is that the Ballistic Tips are an excellent antelope bullet.
I' ve had quite a few .22-250s over the years and think it is the best varmint cartridge around. I would not use it for either deer or antelope. Nosler has recently brought out a 60 grain Partition bullet that has been talked about as a possible deer bullet. I admit I' ve not worked with it at all, and I won' t because of my personal bias against any .22 center fire for game. Good luck.[&:]
