300 win mag loads?
hi guys i was wondering what all you recomended in a 300. i was goin to load up some 168 gr. C/T's but then i was also considering the 180's? i will most likley use it if i go to my west virgina property or if iget crop premits for deer. i want something that will shoot rally flat but also carry alot of knock down let me know what you think and if you have any loaded let me know what powder your 300 liked?

I don't reload for the 300 magnum but if you are looking at just deer hunting and long range shots, I think you are choosing a good bullet. 165-168 grains should come out of the 300 magnum like a rocket. I wouldn't worry knockdown power, a 165 grain bullet coming out of the 300 magnum will carry enough energy past 500 yards to drop a deer.

If you're going to shoot the light (168ish) bullets, make sure you use a premium bullet that will hold together especially on the short shots. They will be screaming.
The 180s are probably more efficient, I don't think the difference in trajectory at average (<400yd) ranges will be very significant.

For deer, I use the 150 grain Barnes Triple Shocks. RL22 powder. I can't remember the powder charge. It's two grains over the max of the original X bulet manual. 1" groups and suppose to be flying at 3300+ fps.

For the last couple of years I have been shooting nosler accubonds in 165gr over 78grs. of Reloder 22. This load if very accurate out of my rifle, I have taken 5 deer with it and no problems to report. Nice exit wounds with very good blood trails.
