6.5-284
Anybody load for it? Anybody have loads for 139gr Lapua Scenar
|
I think the 6.5-284 in the new Savage long range rifles is going to be my next rifle. Here is some data from 6mmbenchrest that really moved me to look at that cartridge. You may have seen these before.
http://www.6mmbr.com/SixFive284.html http://www.6mmbr.com/reloder17.html The RL17 loads are for the 140 Bergers but seem very promising for the 6.5-284 so I posted it also. What rifle did you go with? |
I am thinking of haveing one of these built. Can't make up my mind on if I want 6.5 or 6mmBR. I love the idea of .62 BC bullet. Can alway use >.5BC bullets with barnes or accubonds.

I shoot the 140 berger in my 6.5 Gibbs, the only way to get my chart to match my trajectory is to run a .7 BC in my ballistic program. I'll give the credit, the scenars shoot very, very well but I shot one deer with them.......never will I do it again.
Performace isn't near as good as an SMK on game, and they aren't good till you get to .338 diameter. RR Those numbers looked really good downrange I just dont know anywhere it has been verified. |
OK, so after talking with bigboy about this, what kind of ranges are you guys testing and using this gun at? We are both considering getting inot building a rifle that is capable of shooting accuratly at the 600+ yard range (for deer hunting). I currently have a 300 Win mag set up with bull barrel etc that i was going to use, however the BC of the 6.5 and even the .284 both beat out the .308. I am just wondering if the money spent on building the 6.5-284 could be used for dressing up a current gun i have to attain the same results and put a good glass on top, for the same money.

But I seen a savage makes a 30" barreled that is quite affordable. Seen a few on gunbroker. |
