what powder for a 25-06?

looking to get some ideas on what is a good powder to use for a Rem 700 25-06

TUK101 10-25-2009 05:16 PM

Varget, IMR 4064, Win 760 are a few. Pick up a Hodgdons reloading manual, or Speers reloading manual and you will get a comprehensive list of powders that work with a given bullet weight.

Bandhunter 10-25-2009 05:41 PM

You can go to Hodgdon.com and they list starting load data for their powders in any caliber.

25-06

My favorite round is this and over the years I have played with many different bullets and powders. I reload it for everything from varmints to caribou and nothing shoots better in "my" rifle than Reloader19.

redgreen 10-25-2009 06:21 PM

Reloader 22 or IMR 4831 work great in the 25 06. I always use a magnum primer as well.

iowabuckslayer 10-26-2009 07:22 AM

Hornady manual's normaly give a couple powder suggestion's that worked best in their test gun's. I'd suggest checking one of those.

Reloder25 and 120 gr bullets shoot great out of my 24" Cooper at just over 3100fps

very nice shooting...what yardage is that? how does it do for distance wise?

doubleA 10-26-2009 02:14 PM

Those were fired at 100 yards for load confirmation. I have taken it to 500 yards and it does under MOA.

Im planning on loading it with 115 Nosler BT what kind of bullet drop do you get at 300 and beyond with the 120s

doubleA 10-26-2009 03:30 PM

From a 100yd zero, that load is appx 19,36 and 60 inches low repectively at 300,400 and 500 yards.

Varget's what I use. I don't load my 25-06 very hot, it's fine with lighter loads and a bit easier on the gun.

Dan480Man 10-26-2009 07:33 PM

I also like IMR powder in my 25. I do want to try some R19 though.

skeeter 7MM 10-27-2009 06:56 PM

Using RL22 now with 110gr AB's. I had success with IMR 4350 & 4831 as well with 100-115gr bullets. Haven't needed to try very hard to get the 700sps shooting MOA or better(well needed a trigger job of course), it seems to be a easy going rifle at this point any way.

Pioneer2 11-01-2009 03:17 AM

54gr of either RE22 or H4831 SC and a 120gr Hornady or 115 gr Partition.Deer.black bear and elk have all been put to sleep .As stated before Fed mag primers............Harold

Hey redgreen...my reloading manual specifically recommends that magnum primers should only be used for powders marked for them, like Win. 296.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but I've had good performance with regular rifle primers with IMR 4831, 4350, 4895, and Reloader 19, 22 shooting different calibers: 30-06, .270, 7.62 X 54R, and .308

HighDesertWolf 11-11-2009 12:36 AM

from my experience IMR4350 is hard to beat

klundin2000 11-11-2009 03:28 AM

I also have a Remington 700.

I've had my highest velocities and best accuracy with AA3100. I'm shooting Barnes 100TSX 0.050 off the lands. I'm getting 3450fps and 1/2 MOA. This combo is smoking on deer...and coyotes for that matter. kl

My Sako AV loves a max load of rl 22 with a 117 grain pill. This combo gives me my best grouping.Ialso have been fooling around with some IMR 4350 and getting some pretty good results.

Imr 4350 just seems to be a natural performer in large capacity smaller caliber cartridges like the 25-06 it works real well in the 270 aswell seems almost like it was made especially for these cartridges

gregrn43 11-11-2009 04:30 PM

I use IMR 4350 in mine, never had a problem with it.

7MMXBOLT 12-01-2009 04:01 PM

Remington BDL 700 24" barrel, 115 gr Nosler BT, RL-22 / 56.5 MAX!! COAL 3.250, 3150 fps with under 1" MOA at 200 yards. Very effective out to 400 yards! Work up carefully from 52.5 grains and DO NOT EXCEED 56.5!!! Winchester cases & WLR primers.

Try it you just might like it!!

Frank in the Laurel 12-02-2009 04:01 AM

I've loaded for a few over the years and all of them loved good ole' H or IMR 4350 !! Don't know what it is about that powder but it seems to work in every thing I own and most of the time is the most accurate, cleanest and all around good powder.

+2

It certainly is. Works well for lots cartridges in the area, that needs a medium burn rate.

Carpmaster 12-03-2009 10:15 AM

I just started working up some loads with IMR 4350 but have had great luck with 4064 and 75 grain V Max bullets this fall!
