30-30 bullet advice

I have a savage/stevens 325 bolt action 30-30, and am starting to reload for it. My question is are there any pointed bullets that will expand at 30-30 velocities. I know about the leverevolution bullets but I am just wondering if that is my best bet or is there anything better. Thanks.

hornady 130gr single shot pistol bullet (ssp) will work, also you might any of the 165gr hornady bullet's.

I only recommended Hornady bullet's cause i have their manual in front of me and it has all the recommended velocities for each bullet.

Speer claims that their bullets will reliably expand at 30-30 velocities out to 200 yards. I have tried this with the Speer, Hornady IL, Remington Core Lokt, and Winchester Power Points, and Sierra Game Kings and they all expanded like they should at 100 yards+ out of the Savage 340 that I had.

I use Nosler 150 grain ballistic tips in my Savage 340 .Never had a problem.Except O.A.L.

The Hornady leverevolution in 165 grn. is the best that I have ever shot with the 30-30 Marlin that I have .

In my opinion that is the only load I will ever use again.

In a bolt gun I would recommend any 150 gr. BTSP bullet from the big three (Sierra, Hornady, Speer). No premiums just pointed cup and core bullets. They will have an even better BC than the Leverevolution bullets and loaded up will shoot flatter.

Barnes makes an X bullet specifically for the 30-30. That would be my choice. Obviously :D

I think you will be fine with just a normal BTSP from Speer, Hornady, or Sierra. But if you are really worried about it, go with a polymer tip type bullet like the Nosler Ballistic Tip. The tip helps to promote faster expansion than just a soft point. Other manufacturers make ballistic tip type bullets now too, so look around.
