Reload for Rem 7600
 

I plan on reloading for a Rem 7600 pump in 270. Some say I should use the short base dies, some others are successful using std length dies without any jams. I almost bought a std die the other day but held off looking for more feedback.

I don't where this use short base dies comes from. It is recommended to full length size cases for pump or lever guns.

I don't either. I believe the small base die design was initially intended for semi-auto actions and crossed over to pumps when some users experienced jamming issues. I will go with a RCBS std die set.

I have a 7600 in 35 Whelen and it has not given me one little probem with std dies no need for the small base dies

I"ve loaded for 4 or 5 760's over the years and all with small base dies..they do work, a .001 here or there and they really make this type of action smooth and it will work nicely in very cold weather also.. I would reccommend you try the sizer die, it's a great idea and you don't have to ram the action to make them fit..worth the $20....

Pump Rifles
 

I have used both type dies in several different Remington pump rifles over the years. And I can say I have never noticed a dimes bit of difference in accuracy or function.

The Remington pump rifle is a great rifle that is capable of MOA accuracy if you work up a good load. And IMO for MOA accuracy any type of sizing will work(for accuracy) as long as it is consistent. Tom.

When I was a kid in Pa., it seemed that every second hunter I met had a Rem. 760. Usually they were .30-06's, but .270's and .308's were also popular. The club I belonged to had a sighting in day about 2 weeks before the opening of deer season, and I helped sight in many 760's. The accuracy of some of those pumps was amazing.

I had a pair of .30-06's and reloaded for several others. I used standard RCBS dies, and never had a problem.

YOU got that right KEYS, it's not changed all that much either with the over 50 crowd..show up at any sportsmens' club two weeks before and they dominate the scene...I've seen some that were 1/2 inchers..especially one in .244 many moons ago..I've never really seen a bad one to be honest with you..the first ten bucks I killed were with a 30/06, one shot, one kill...my son killed his first with the same rifle...ask the Bennoit's..kindda neat seeing them caring them on northwoods advententures on the sportsmen's channel.

Thanks for all the feedback. Alot of hunters just can't warm up to a rifle in pump action but have no problem with using a Rem 870 shotgun??? I am getting about 1.25-1.50"/100y groups right now from factory ammo Rem CL 130gr. I am going to reload Sierra GK 130gr with H4831 starting at 53.5g and work up from there. I will also try H4350 and Varget powder.
