Can you help a greenhorn out,
Trying to figure on which die set to get , The deluxe set .

RGB stands for really great buy. It consists of the dies only. The shellholder, dipper, and load data are not included.

Now you can crimp your bullets in place the same as factory ammunition. Roll crimps simply do not hold the bullet as firmly as a factory crimp. I already have the case gauge and shellholder, just not sure which way to go with the die set?

OK. You need to tell us what type of firearm you will be shooting with. If you are going to be loading for a semi-auto such as an AR-15 or a pump action I highly recommend getting small-base dies for your .223. If it's a bolt action, any good die manufacturer should work fine. I generally buy RCBS or Redding dies myself for rifle work......

Harvester.Who is the maker of the "Deluxe set of dies"? I use RCBS, Lee and Lyman dies, but RCBS mostly. The Lee dies are for my pistols. You can't go wrong with RCBS. I agree that you may need small base dies with some rifle applications.

I myself would stay away from Lee dies. I won't buy another lee rifle die. I will buy thier collet die and pistol carbides.

I would buy RCBS small base dies. Small base ensure brass is taken down to SAAMI specs. Where regular sizing dies may take the brass down to SAAMI specs but usually a hair wider above the web area.

I have a set of RCBS dies for my bolt action .223 bu when I got my 'black rifle' I had to get a small base sizing die to allow for reliable chambering in it.
The small base die is nothing more than a sizing die that brings the case back to minimum spec case dimensions which allow for chambering in all firearms in that chambering.

I have never owned an X-die. They say they work. No more trimming after first trim. That would be nice.
