RE: shooting range brass ?

Before I went to the trouble of cleaning it up, I'd make SURE it's reloadable first. Check to make sure it's Boxer primed, and that it's brass not steel. Look down into the case for a single hole to check the first one. One flash hole is Boxer, two is Berdan (which without special tools and primers, is worthless and not reloadable). A magnet will verify if it's steel or not, as will rust on or in the case (since most steel cases are lacquered to prevent external rust). If it's for sure brass, and it's Boxer primed, then tumble it. If it's really nasty you might want to use walnut hulls.
