Reloading shell hulls

I picked up a few hundred of these hulls cheap. Question is are they reloadable considering the small tears on the crimp areas?
They eveidently were 00 buckshot to begin with.
Can they also be loaded for shot in sizes 6 or 8 shot?

RE: Reloading shell hulls

The short answer is yes and yes. The tears are normal and when folded they will not be seen. One thing to consider when loading shotshells is that not all 'hulls' are the same. The 'hull', the wad, the charge have to match up well to get safe and reliable ammo.
Your OOB hulls appear to be just standard high base Winchester 12 ga. One other point of fact the height of the brass has nothing to do with the actual load you can put in the hull. Low base brass hulls will handle the same loads as high base. Its just a thing ammo manufacturers do for identity.

RE: Reloading shell hulls

That little round "tear" is actually the aftermath of the heat sealing of the crimp common to many factory loaded shells. All of my Winchester shells have that melted depression right in the center of the crimp that looks like they melted the plastic with a hot metal rod (which is probably exactly what they did).

Here is exactly the same Winchester Super-X 00 Buck shell that I removed from my home defense shotgun...

Sorry for the bad pic, my camera doesn't do macro shots very well, but you can see the little round melted seal in the middle of the crimp.

I use my shells until they don't feed or the shot comes out the end, Crimp gives up.
