Chris...Welcome to the game. It's a lot of fun. What I'd recommend you do is refer to your reloading manual ( I feel Lyman is really tops ) for a powder recommendation in relation to the bullet you want to shoot
I load for the .280 Rem., the 7mm Mag, and the 7mm-08.....all .284 bullet diameters, as is your .284. MOST of my luck has been with IMR 4350 at mid-range to max loadings. This does not say that other powders may not be as good or better, it's just what I find shoots well in my guns. A lot of it is trial and error experience.
I'll bet others will chime in here and try to give you a hand too.
Anyway, good luck with this, and above all...be safe !!!

You might also consider RL-19 I have used itfor my .280 Rem with 140-160 gr bullets with superb results.

As mentioned above, IMR 4350 is a good choice, as are RL 22 and H4831.

I'm a beginner to so I cant say for sure but from what I've seen IMR 4350 gets lots of praise. In the Nosler manual RL19 gave the best groups with the .280 with two different bullet weights. That's a great cal you got there.Shame it's not around anymore.

I reload for 4, 7mags and they do like RL22 with 140 Accubonds , look in the book , give em a try.

IMR 4350, RL 19, H4831. Pretty standard stuff to get started.

RuLzU - Being that this is the second basic question you've asked regarding reloading. Not that it is a problem, glad to help - But I suggest you ask your friend if you can borrow his reloading manual and read the front section of the manual. Almost every manual goes through a step by step process for reloading. This information, plus watching your friend reload, or him watching you should get you on the right track.
