.270 wsm reloads!!!???
So I just loaded and shot my first reloads EVER! Thanks to Thunderchickins advise I went with IMR4350. Loaded @59 grns. and .286 ocl. They grouped very well (click below). But through many searches I'm guessing that the velocities are running about 3000 fps?? I am thinking of going to Magpro to up the FPS???? Any thoughts???

Some pretty nice groups. What bullet and weight and what primer are you using? With my Ruger I find the best groups with 130 gr ballistic tips is 63.0 gr of I4350 ( max load ) with Wlrm primers. For the 140 gr bullets it seems to like it a little slower. I wouldn't give up on 4350 yet. It's a lot easier to find the 4350 than the magpro. You might just need to do a little more work.

Thanks thndrchiken,
I ran this load with 59 grns.4350.....Once fired Winchester brass,CCI LRM primers and Accubond 140grn. bullets out of a Tikka t3 lite.
I actually had 3 different loads.....The others being 60 grns. of powder set @2.87 ocl and 61grns. set @2.86.
The 61 grainers were harder to eject (could be too hot of a load??) Neither grouped as well.
I'm going to reseat the 60 grain loads to 2.86 and see if they group any better.
Am I being too picky???? Is a couple of hundred fps that big of a deal???
Thanks,
Bill

RE: .270 wsm reloads!!!???
SAAMI COL is 2.86, I wouldn't think that 2.87 would be an issue as long as it feeds reliably. Nosler's data shows 60.5 gr of I 4350 as a max load. I would go back to 58.0 and work up from there in .2 gr increments. I always go for the accuracy and don't worry about speed. The deer isn't going to be able to tell the difference of a couple hundred fps.

Glob3006, nice looking groups.I am shooting 130 gr accubonds out of my 270wsm over 62.5 grs of imr4350 and they average 3265fps. and are very accurate.I have tried around 3or4 diffrent powders and none of them where as good as 4350 out of my rifle. But the way your groups are I dont know if i would make a hole lot changes. my 2 cent

Like MT said, I've had that best luck with 4350. Other powders I've tried have been h4831sc and re19. I've been thinking about giving that Winchester 780 a try if I can find it.

Thanks guy's.....I may have to borrow a friends chrony. Like I said.....I think I'll reseat some of the 60 grn. 2.87 ocl reloads to 2.86and give them a good test.
Just lookin' tomaybe get a little more fps/ energy down range. I'm hangin' my '06 on the wall and this will be my new all around setup for Elk,Deer,Antelope. I agree that accuracy is king and I shouldn't complain. But a man can't leave well enough alone and with this internet thing.......There sure is alot of info to cloud the mind.
Thanks and if there are anymore thought's let me know.My next project will be loading up some 22-250's

Hey oldowl......What bullet are you using???
I picked up some 140 grn. tsx's to see how they'll shoot. Can't find anything but the IMR4350 locally and I haven't decided if paying a$22.00 hazmat fee for a lb. of Magpro or RL22is quite worth it??
Thanks
