looking for accurate 204 ruger loads

RE: 204 ruger reloads

I am shooting 30gr of BL-C(2) with 32gr nosler BT, with sub .5MOA results. Thats with a Remington benchrest primer. Also holds together little better than the hornady 32gr. So I like it on coyotes.

I don't know how you can expect to take one man's rifle "pet" load and expect it to be a good load in your rifle too since his rifle isn't your rifle!! In other words, does his rifle have the same length of barrel, same rate of twist, etc.? Is his load touching the lands, or not? What's his COAL? What type of rifle is bigcountry loading for? Is it even the same as what you're wanting to load for? What good is a load without knowing all of that?
If and when handloading, the quickest way to find an accurate load for YOUR rifle is to start at the minimum suggested load and work your way up to the max. suggested load.
There are no short cuts!!

chuck, since the min to max loads for the 204 is so short i suggest starting at the middle of the loads and working up toward max in tenths of grains of powder. load about 5 of each loads and keep them seperated and marked in a sandwich bag. also mark targets for each load and head for the range. fire these off sandbags without moving the scope and see which load gives the best groups. the load that gives the best group is the one you want to use. good luck with your rifle. also you might want to try different bullets and powders using the same process.

come on guys, take it easy on the fella. Probably just wanting to get some ideas before purchasing some components.

I have always stood by one persons load may not be great in another mans gun. But someone brought it to my attention that federal match and black hills match shoots well in about every gun shot. And from what I have seen, they are right. So there is probably some good dynamic loads out there.

chuckell......I don't feel anyone on here meant to offend you in any way. We know nothing about your level of experience with reloading, and were only trying to make sure that safe practices were used. Perhaps if you could have given us a little more info on your backround with reloading, we could have been a little more helpful. Nobody here is going to lecture you about anything. Only have your best interest at heart, really. This is a great place to gather information, and have a good time. Lots of very knowledgeable people on here. Hope you choose to stick around................PA.

Pawildman, well said. as for componits for the 204, they might have to be ordered at a gun shop. especially the brass and the bullets. try googling for loading info for the 204 and see if any info comes up. good luck.

Not sure about all this, but I think the reason he is on here asking for load info, is because this is a reloading sight.

RE: 204 ruger reloads

Lost track of this thread, and since you called me out, here's some more lecture for ya! First off I don't know you and you obviously don't know me! 2nd, how do I know how much experience at reloading you have, if any? There's really quite a bit of published reloading info. on the web., even for the .204 without asking for personal reloading recipes. This is kind of like going to a shooting range and asking someone that you've never met if you can take a few of his pieces of ammo. and run them through your gun, without even knowing anything about the guy, or how he loads his ammo. Would you do that? I wouldn't..

As was said, maybe you could've avoided my seeminly "harsh" type of response by also telling us that you're experienced in the reloading world and was simply looking for a good starting point. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR!!So without knowing you or a dang thing about you, what I did was gave you "safe advise." Apparently, that's not what you were looking for!

It seems that usually it's the guys that are new at reloading that are asking for "pet loads" in an attemptof skipping the load development process that we all should go through for every rifle that we reload for. My appollogies for assuming that you were a "newbie" reloader.![8D]

As far as "knowing it all", I thought I did once, only to find out I was wrong![8D]
