Anyone else taper crimp their .44 mag?
 

I picked up a used taper crimp die at a gun show. I really like the results using that die in station5 on my Hornady progressive press in lieu of the usual bullet seat/roll crimp on station four. Anybody else?

Yeah, I use one, I feel that it may help the case last a little longer. Less stress on the brass than rolling it over and over.

Lately I have been taper crimping 300 grain hard-cast lead bullets with a gas-check. Loading them over 21 grains of W296. Out of my 5.5" RedHawk, very accurate.

Thanks for the reply. I think you may beright about the brass.

What I really like about it is the ease of setting up the dies. To me, it's always been a pain in the butt setting up the bullet seating/crimp die. Too much fooling around for my taste. I'd rather haveeach die do a single job rather than two.

I'm shooting a scoped Performance Center Smith. I've been having good accuracy with 240 grain XTP's and Accurate Arms #9.

Taper crimp is al I use. IMO it works the brass less, and exact OAL(trim length)is less critical. Tom.

I was using it for when I was loading for my 44 mag lever gun. It seemed to help in getting a bit better burn and put a bit more poop on the bullet leaving the gun. It also helped to keep the bullets from seating themselves further in the tube on recoil.
