300 RUM
Hello again to the reloading junkies out there. I have taken a little break from HN and am back for a short stay.
After long deliberation I decided to get one of these guns. My 30-378 is still king of my safe so far. I want to see what all the hype is with this gun. So hear I am. I purchased a Remington 700 LSS with a Loopy 6.5-20 VXIII. Anyone have a good place to start with their special loads? What kind of velocities are you getting? Bullet/powder combinations? COL? Thanks to BC I got plenty of primers. Let the competition begin. :) |
RE: 300 RUM
Well, a good reliable load (but slow) is 94gr of H1000 and 180gr accubond with 215 primers. But you will only get 3200fps most likely.
Another good one is 95gr of Retumbo and 190gr matchking. Lots of muzzleflash for some reason. Another favorite of mine is if I can remember 89-90gr of RL25 and 180gr TSX. All are loaded to 3.65" give or take. |

What kind of velocities did you get with the RL25 and 180 TSX?

RE: 300 RUM
My own 300 ultramags liked 91gr and 93gr of R-25 behind the 180gr tsx.Velocities were 3360fps and 3380fps,with 5/8" groups at 100 yards with both rifles.

RE: 300 RUM
Owning a 30-378 you probably know that these large cases really shine with heavier bullets. A friend I reload with shoots 200 grain accubonds in his 300 ultras. He loads with Retumbo 96 grains max and RL25 92 grains max. I do not know OAL but he sits them out as far as the magazine allows. Velocities are 3200 from a 26 inch barrel. He is rebarreling a savage with a 28" Shilen and hopes to crack 3300 with it. When you compare the .588 BC for this bullet it will match the trajectory of the 180s with less wind drift and higher KE.
