Default rcbs x die

hi, I have a question about this thing. I recently bought a x die in 7mm/08 and set it up as per the instructions. It appears the decapping pin extends 7/16" from the bottom of the die. This seems pretty far to me (my redding pin only extends about an 1/8").
Does this seem right?
I called rcbs and a rep said it was but i'm not so sure she knew what i was talking about.
Also anyone have any experience or comments about this die?

With most RCBS decapping dies 3/16" is about right. You can adjust this very easy. Start out with the pin extending about 1/8" past the end of the die. Adjust it out til it just pokes out the old primer. Then pull the handle of the press up till you can feel the expander in the neck of the case and lock down the stem with the lock nut on top.

WW874, if you are full length sizing andhave followed instructions the case will protrude below the die .125, the deck height of a shell holder is .125, the tricky part, how tall is the primer? the pin must protrude below the die far enough to remove the primer from the case, that means .125 plus the thickness of the primer, primers are close to .125 to .130 tall, to clear the case, the primer punch pin should protrude below the die about .225 +, a caution, it is possible to hit the bottom of the base with the sizer button if the assembly is adjusted down too far, as you know, this will bend and or brake something.
