7mm-08 cases from 308 or 243?

I' m considering buying some lapua cases for my 7mm-08 but they only make 308 or 243 cases.

I' ve been told that 308 necks are too thick & can cause problems if necked down, someone else said that 243 necked up & your necks will be too thin & may crack, what do you think?

Has anyone resized 243 or 308 cases to 7mm-08 ,how well did it work out?

Thank you

Tumbo

I' ve never done this so this is my best guess...... PLEASE make sure I' m on the right tack before you do any of it. I' ve heard 7mm -08 is a .308 necked down to 7mm so start with .308 form them and then neck ream them to thickness. They make a reaming tool that fits your case trimmer it goes in , in place of the pilot.

.243 win seem to thcken when resized so I ream them to ensure thickness.

Good Luck

I' ve necked 308s down to 7-08s with no problem in a bolt rifle. The 308s where give to me, and don' t own a 308 so was out nothing. Zeak

The only thing about making a 7mm-08 Rem from a 308 Win is it leaves you with a shorter neck. I wouldn' t do it unless someone just gave me a bunch of factory 308 brass or 243 brass. Brass is just too available now to have to go through the trouble.

I would use the 308 brass. The necks will become thicker, but like NE Hunter mentioned you might have to turn the necks. Good luck.
